Abstract

In this article, two compact structures of the branch-line hybrid coupler (BLC) which can suppress upper order harmonics of the conventional BLC are proposed. By replacing the microstrip transmission lines at any electrical length of the conventional BLC with their equivalent new T-type transmission lines, two compact BLCs that can suppress upper order harmonics are achieved. Design equations of the proposed T-type line are achieved by ABCD matrices. To validate the design concept, first, a compact BLC which utilises a proposed T-type line in each of its branch is designed and fabricated to suppress the second to the eighth harmonics. Furthermore, the first BLC is analysed by even- and odd-mode analyses and the scattering parameter matrix of the first BLC is calculated at the first to eighth harmonics. There is an excellent agreement between simulated and measured results. Then, a compact BLC which uses two proposed T-type lines in each of its branch is designed at 1 GHz to suppress the second to the fifth harmonics and the second to sixth harmonics, simultaneously. The first- and second-proposed structures are 50% and 46% of the conventional BLC, respectively, while maintaining the characteristics of the conventional BLC at the fundamental frequency.

In this article, a compact branch-line hybrid coupler (BLC) which can suppress upper order harmonics of the conventional BLC is proposed. By adding a radial stub in the center of each branch, a compact BLC which can suppress the upper order harmonics are achieved. The proposed BLC is designed and simulated at 0.93GHz. The proposed structure is 27% of the conventional BLC, while maintaining the characteristics of the conventional BLC at the center frequency. There are two transmission zeroes at 3.6 and 5.6GHz. The third upto seventh harmonic are suppressed at least 20dB.

In this article, an ultra wideband power divider is proposed, analysed and designed. The design approach of the proposed power divider is derived from even/odd mode analysis. The design approach is validated, and the power divider is simulated by two full-wave electromagnetic simulators (ADS and Sonnet) and fabricated on a substrate with a thickness of 0.635 mm and relative constant of 10.2. Measured results of the proposed power divider show equal power split, excellent insertion loss and good return loss at all the three ports, and a good isolation between the two output ports is achieved over the specified 3.1–10.6 GHz ultra wideband range. In the input port return loss, there are two transmission poles around 5.2 and 9.5 GHz. The overall size of the proposed power divider is just .

Summary:
In this article, a simple structure of the Wilkinson power divider which can suppress the nth harmonics of the Wilkinson power divider is proposed. By replacing the quarter wavelength transmission lines of the conventional Wilkinson power divider with the equivalent P-type transmission lines, a compact power divider which can suppress the nth harmonic is achieved. Design equations of proposed P-type line are achieved by ABCD matrices. To verify the design approach, the proposed power divider is designed, simulated (by ADS, CST Studio, and Sonnet simulators), and fabricated at 1 GHz to suppress the fifth harmonic. The proposed structure is 46% of the conventional Wilkinson power divider, while maintaining the characteristics of the conventional Wilkinson power divider at the fundamental frequency. The insertion losses at the fifth harmonic are larger than 35 dB. Furthermore, the second to seventh harmonic are suppressed by least 10 dB. Here is an excellent agreement between simulated results and measured results.

Abstract

In this article, a new microstrip dual-band bandstop filter (DSBF) is proposed. By combining coupled three-line microstrip structures, single transmission lines, and coupled open-end stubs, a DSBF with high-rejection levels and sharp frequency responses in the stopbands is found. The proposed DSBF is optimized to suppress DGS, DMB, GPS, UTMTS, WCDMA, WIBRO, and WLAN bands. The insertion loss in the two stopbands is >20 dB from 1.52 to 2.77 GHz and from 4.88 to 5.8 GHz. Four transmission zeros are realized at 1.7, 2.7, 5.1, and 5.8 GHz. Moreover, return loss of passband between the first and second stopbands is excellent. The proposed DSBF is simulated (by ADS simulator) and fabricated on a substrate with a thickness of 0.635 mm and a relative dielectric of 10.2. Here is an excellent agreement between simulation and measurement results. The overall size of the DSBF is 17.538 × 14.4 mm2. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract

A miniaturized dual-band Wilkinson power divider is designed and proposed using coupled transmission lines. The main part of the component consists of a microstrip hairpin resonator, which is implemented in a way to provide an artificial inductor and a capacitor between the two output ports. A lucid equivalent circuit model is synthesized for this model. To optimize the performance of the power divider, electromagnetic simulation has been used to tune its dimensions. The simulated and measured results are in good agreement. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 53:676–679, 2011; View this article online at wileyonlinelibrary.com. In this article, a dual-band monopole antenna fed by a 50  microstrip transmission line is proposed for Wireless Local Area Network applications in IEEE 802.11 a/b/g. The proposed microstrip–fed monopole antenna consists of a rectangular patch with four notches at the four corners of the rectangular patch and a small rectangular patch slot. For the microstrip-fed antenna, two resonant bands are seen. The first band is about 7% for the center frequency of 2.41 GHz and the second band extends from 4.876 to 6.2 GHz with a fractional bandwidth of 24%. The simulated peak gains over these bands are 3.28 and 6.87 dBi, respectively. The overall size of the proposed antenna is 29.3 13.6 0.8  . Details of the simulation results are presented and discussed

In this article, an extremely miniaturized branchline coupler ( BLC) operating at 0.9 GHz is analyzed, designed and introduced to enhance the bandwidth accompanied by highly size reduction without  via-holes, multilayered technique and airbridged. A combination of a simple low-pass and band-stop  filters is proposed to increase isolation between BLC’s ports. This model is equaled by a quarter  wavelength line and necessary equations are obtained using even and odd modes analysis. A compact  BLC is designed and  analyzed using this technique. It is shown that the proposed BLC works as well as conventional ones  though with size reduction of about 74% and 4.5% enhancement in bandwidth in analogy with recent  branch-line coupler
